About Danielle:

Danielle Chutinthranond, creator of Monsoon Pottery, is a Chicago based ceramicist working out of West Town. She grew up in a Thai restaurant her parents own in upstate New York. This upbringing around food, family, and tradition drives her passion for creating functional wares. Her pieces pay homage to Asian eating rituals and reflect the complications of an expansive Asian American cultural material identity.  Her wares encourage intimacy and elegance through their use, and point to dining practice as a mode for expansive cultural reverence, convergence, and celebration.

In her talk, Danielle will share different collections of her ceramic work and inspirations. This will guide us through her practice, process, and philosophy.

RYAN FLORES

March 28th, 3pm CST

Ryan will give a talk about his work with ceramics, sculpture, and a recent project combining the clay medium with photography.

Ceramics play a major role in his work because of the materials' seductive qualities. The work lies in the spectrum of seduction and repulsion. In this place of duality, he hopes to create complex objects, provoking conflicting reactions through relatable subverted forms.

BIO: Ryan Flores is a sculptor and ceramicist who currently lives and works in Brooklyn. He received a BFA in Ceramics from California State University, Long Beach and an MFA in Sculpture + Extended Media from Virginia Commonwealth University. His most recent exhibition was with Rockefeller Center’s Art in Focus public art program in association with Art Production Fund.
